Pack Meeting and Advancement Ceremony this Friday
This is a quick reminder that this Friday’s Pack Meeting and Advancement Ceremony will be held at Lions Field (68 Brigham Hill Rd). This will be the last official Pack Meeting of the 2010-2011 year, and will be where the boys advance in rank. We’ll have a nice ceremony followed by a bonfire, and will have pizza and s’mores for everyone. If the weather looks poor, we’ll switch the venue to St. Mary’s Church.
Please have your boys wear their full uniforms (with neckerchiefs), and also please bring camping chairs for seating.
The schedule of events for this summer will be discussed and handed out at the meeting, too.
Treasure Valley Summer Camp
As Andy Myers presented to us at April’s Pack Meeting, there are 4 weeks of Cub Scout Day Camp at Treasure Valley this summer. The weeks that have bus stops closest to Grafton are Week 1 (July 4th-July 8th) and Week 3 (July 18th-22nd). My recommendation, if you’re considering going, would be Week 3 since Week 1 overlaps with the 4th of July. Each week is $255, but if payment is submitted before 5/31, it’s $220. If we submit 4 or more boys from the pack together, there’s an additional discount of $25/boy, so the week of camp would cost $195. I’ll be coordinating registration for the pack, in order to get the discount for as many boys as possible. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about Treasure Valley’s Summer Camp – it really is a fantastic experience for the boys.
There are also 2 weeks of Webelos Resident Camp. Boys who are Webelos (this year’s Bears and Webelos I’s) are eligible. Week 1 is a short week – 3 days, June 24th-26th. Early registration for this week has already past, so the cost is $195. Given that it’s the last day of school in Grafton, I don’t expect that there’d be much interest in this one. Week 2 is a long week – 6 days, August 7th-12th. It’s $270, but if payment is received by 7/11, it’s $245. A $10/boy discount would be in effect if we register 4 or more boys here too.
If you want your boy to go to any of these weeks of camp, please email me with your preferred week(s), and I’ll communicate with you when we’ve gotten enough names for the discount. For Day Camp, again please note that we want to have payment submitted by 5/31 to get the maximum discount. I’ll be collecting registration forms and checks, which should be made out to Treasure Valley Scout Reservation, not the Pack.
May Pack Hike – Sunday, May 22nd
Our May Hike will be at Purgatory Chasm on Sunday, May 22nd. It will start around 1pm, and I expect we’ll go 2 miles or so.
Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 30th
Pack 106 will march in Grafton’s annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th. More information is being gathered on this, but right now it looks like we’ll be gathering at Miner Field/Norcross Park at 11am and marching to the Common for a noon-time ceremony. Boys who participate should wear their full uniforms, and will be credited with 1 mile towards their hiking sticks.
Some other events
I’d also like to inform you about some upcoming non-scout activities you may be interested in:
This Saturday, May 14th, is North Grafton Elementary School’s Fun Fair. The event will be from 10 am- 3pm. There will be food, games, music, pedal cars, hamster balls, inflatables and much more. This is a volunteer run event and the scouts are welcome to come and volunteer an hour or as much time as they can, to this great community event. The boys can help run the games or the crafts. The younger boys should volunteer with an adult, but our Bears/Webolos can volunteer solo. To volunteer, go to www.mysignup.com/funfair2011
This Sunday, May 15th, the annual Blackstone Valley Youth Fishing Tournament will be held at Hopedale Pond in Hopedale. More info at: http://www.bvfishingderby.org/
On Saturday, June 4th, the annual Upton Police Fishing Derby will be held at Pratt Pond in Upton. More info at: http://uptonpolice.org/
As always, if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, feel free to contact me or any member of the Pack’s leadership. We’re looking forward to seeing you this Friday, and at our events over the summer!
